Making the Most of Your Lounge at Christmas

If you’re looking for some Christmas interior design ideas, you’ve come to the right place, and with not a moment to spare before the big day itself arrives.

Many of us are making those final preparations for family and friends to come and visit – and that’s likely to put our lounges and living rooms under much greater demand than usual.

So what are the best Christmas interior design trends of the moment, and how can they help you accommodate all of your guests this festive season?

More room at the inn

You might not expect to take Christmas interior design inspiration from the story of the Nativity itself, but unless you want your loved ones to spend the night in a stable, you’re going to need plenty of beds.

An ordinary sofa can work as a place for one person to sleep for a few nights, but for couples or longer visits, a double Sofa bed is a good idea.

With Christmas well underway and the family keen to just relax during the holidays, you might even find the bed stays pulled-out during the daytimes, giving you somewhere to stretch your legs in comfort.

Lounging on the chaise longue

If you don’t fancy a sofa-bed, you can still take some Christmas interior design inspiration from them, by opting instead for a chaise longue or day bed.

These are increasingly incorporated into corner sofas as a platform-like extension at one end of the seat, without an arm.

As well as giving you somewhere to recline, they can double as an extra seat when you’re at capacity, and can be more comfortable to sleep on overnight too.

Stools rule

Next on our list of Christmas interior design ideas is yet another way to put your feet up, which can also double as a spare seat so you don’t have to bring down the office chair.

Footstools are a great addition to a room – they provide an extra focal point so that your sofa does not look alone in the space, and a comfortable position to rest your feet.

Like our other Christmas interior design trends, it’s about comfort and versatility – and all of these ideas will serve you well throughout the year, and not just at Christmas.

It all depends on your room, so take some measurements and work out what you have the space for, whether it’s a footstool, a larger day bed or chaise longue, or a full-sized corner sofa with a pull-out bed section.
